Getting a social security card in Michigan
The laws have recently changed in my state regarding birth certificates and SS#s for babies. We have unassisted births and had some trouble getting our most recent baby´s birth certificate. After a few trips and a bit of arguing, we did get the BC. They were supposed to send information to SS for us, but apparently that no longer works if you don´t birth in a hospital. So I called SS after waiting for months and not getting the card. They told me I had to reapply and that the ONLY acceptable form of ID in addition to the BC is the shot record. I said fine and hung up. Then I called the doctor and had her send me a blank shot record with the baby´s name and address, etc on it (none of my living children have any vaxes). We took it in, along with a note from the doctor stating that the baby had, in fact, been born to us, just in case. We gave the clerk his BC and the letter first. She said that she needed to have the shot record. So dh said "Okaayy" and handed it to her. She stared at it for a while and then said "It´s blank". We acknowledged that it was indeed. She looked confused and dh helped her out by telling her that vaccines killed our oldest daughter, so we learned how deadly they can be and no longer vax. Then we got a great big smile and a "His card will be in the mail shortly. Have a nice day". If you live in Michigan and birth at home, be aware that you will have to bring in a shot record. I hope a blank one works for others as well.
