Does your Ped make you sign a Vax Waiver?
I took DD into an annual appointment to see the ped. When the nurse was done she handed me a form, told me to read and sign. I asked what it was and she said it was a vax waiver. I said this is new. She said yes with all the media attention ( she lists - recalled vaxs, Jenny Mcarthy, news stories etc) we are now implementing this waiver because we have seen more resitance. I glanced at it and right away new I would not sign it and said what happens now. She said talk to the doctor. He comes in tells me they are trying to protect themselves etc. We had a long discussion and I said I would not sign it. It said I was knowingly putting my child at risk of illness or death. I told him that when people vax they sign a waiver then too taking responsiblity for the risk and now when they don´t vax they have too. I asked what responsibility he had in all this, vaccines have risks too, everything is being put back on the parents. I said I didn´t agree and would not sign the waiver. Well I thought I was fired for sure, LOL and to my surprise he said I was right and ripped it up infront on me. He admitted they were going about this the wrong way and he was going to talk to the board. He said that he wasn´t going to make his patients feel as though they were uninformed and careless because he didn´t feel that way. Now this is a guy who is pretty pro-vax but tolerant of my choice not to vax so I was surprised. So then he askes me what I think they should do? So I have been thinking and not really sure I want to do anything but if they need something, what do most people do? Do you write a simple letter for your file? This is what I was thinking. Do you just use the waiver available in your state like they use in schools? I am curious what is happening in other doctors offices and what they expect from non-vaxer´s?
